I am looking to move to Orlando at the end of this summer. I know FL is not like NY, however I am looking to rent for a year or two but would like to live in the city/build areas of Orlando since that is what I am using to, also I am a single male, my budget is $1500, if I can get a nice apartment for less all the better. I still want to live where I can go out to meet young working class people. Can anyone help me out, and also what is the best way to do my apartment search?

Thanks
SpM

Thornton Park, Lake Eola, anything downtown pretty much. Also SoDo. All would be in your price range.

I agree with Annerk but would also add Winter Park, College Park, Baldwin Park and Delaney Park as secondary options.

Ditto on annerk and Crane's Rooster's suggestions. If you end up moving to the far south side where Hunters Creek is, you'll feel like you're back in NYC as most people who live south of downtown are native NY'ers

There are high rises in downtown that are in your price range for a studio or one bedroom. It would probably be the most reminiscent of NYC, although nothing in Orlando is remotely as urban.

Meetup.com might be a good way, look for groups you're interested in (specific sports or hobbies, they may have a newcomers group or dining out too). If you'll be in a large work place, they may have different activities too (yrs ago ours had bowling and softball, I think, but they did downsize over the years and Im pretty sure they dont have them any more but other companies probably are different).

What are your hobbies? I moved here in 2005 not really knowing anyone. I got involved in volunteer work and pursued several activities that I enjoy and ended up with a wide circle of great friends.

Orlando Sports Social is a really good way to meet young professionals. They have sports leagues ranging from softball to volleyball to flag football you name it. It's very popular amongst young pro's, many of my friends and myself have played in a league at one time or another.

If sports is not your thing, there are many young professional networks, most go by profession but many also invite non industry professionals to attend.
