It's a bit weird that this "2013" list was put out in April, before my nephews had even taken their final exams for the year. It's also a bit telling that they claim to draw info from their 2011 and 2012 reports for their 2013. Either way, It's interesting to see Arkansas and Kentucky so high on the list, wouldn't you think?

Like i said you would you do. You would go out of your way, and try and prove it inaccurate. These postings were actually published in January, and they are based of off the same information that determined the states rankings from 2011, and 2012. Nice try though... It puzzles me when you were right there behind the rankings when Florida was 11th, and Texas was 12th, but when they show an even bigger leap for Forida schools then all of a sudden this information is false, I don't think so! Id Love for you to go on the Kentucky, and Arkansas boards and tell then they don't deserve their rankings.

I love it here. I love the weather and I love the people. There is so much to do, we don't even get to the beaches. We love, love Disney. who doesn't like fun! We moved from the upper Midwest where we froze to death 6 months out of the year. getting in your car and shaking from the cold, trying to get ice off the windshield, trying to avoid ice on the crappy roads is NOT fun. That and people are crabby, skies are gray, no thank you, don't want that anymore! We also lived in California twice, so smoggy you couldn't see the mountains, well maybe two days out of a month. Everyone keeps to themselves, you only get to know the people you work with, very anonymous, lonely society. Also went through an earthquake, very scary. I like it here!
Let me add, property taxes and utilities, up north, were almost twice what they are here.

Hmm... One posting, saying that it's weird how 2013 school grades could be given before the end of the actual school year, before the results of final exams and grades are even out yet, and I went "out of my way" to disprove the results of the link you posted? I think you're reaching.

At least it's gotten better than it was...

State: Schools still rank near the bottom

In eight years alot can change. Like Florida ranking in the top 10 in the nation. We still spend way less than most state in Education spending.

FL gets a great bang for its education buck. NY and NJ spend way more pupil and really don't have proportionally much more to show for it

Yup, simply spending more per pupil does NOT mean better performing students. If students want to study hard and excel, they will. If they want to drink, smoke Dutch Masters filled with weed a knock up their female classmates they will. Regardless of how much their state spends on them for school

I agree, the fact that so many locals have left, and so many families from the North East have moved in have probably helped a bit as well.

Hopefully, the trends will continue and not decline.

I'm also thinking of moving to Florida from CT once my youngest graduates HS in 4 years. I'm divorced and would like to meet some fun single people my age 50-60 range. I like a college-town type vibe (educated, artsy, fun), near either lakes or w/in 20 min. of the ocean, medium to small town but within 45 min. to a city, and low crime. Also would like the "cooler temperature" parts of FL (if there are any, lol). So yah, I know this is a super-tall order, but if anyone knows places that hit SOME of these things, that's a start! Thanks!
