Good morning. I am going to to be in the Orlando area in a few weeks and I am looking for some good local fare to try when I arrive. I am not looking for the standard tourist type places or major chains. Any suggestions? I am specifically interested in seafood, BBQ and Mexican but will try anything.

Thanks

For BBQ I'd think 4Rivers in Winter Park, Longwood, and Winter Garden will be the best you've ever had.

Yellow Dog Eats is a good BBQ place.. lots of charm. Agave Azul is considered very good for Mexican, while Rocco's Tacos is a local hangout spot after dark. I also am fond of Dandelion Communitea Cafe in downtown Orlando, which serves vegetarian fare with a hippie atmosphere. Also downtown Cindy's Tropical Cafe is a hole in the wall with awesome Cuban sandwiches.

I love the mahi at Kingfish in College Park. Cityfish in Thornton Park is pretty good, too. BBQ = 4 Rivers.

I'm pretty sure Dandelion is mostly Vegan. There are just a couple vegetarian (cheese) options. But I agree it's a very cool restaurant and surprisingly tasty food.

My favorite sushi is Amura downtown and Shari downtown (more upscale). 4 rivers, like posted above, has amazing BBQ. Also try Briarpatch restaurant in winter park for breakfast.

Orlando isn't a BBQ, Seafood or Mexican town. We're mostly "American", while in certain parts of town, it's more PR, Brazil & Caribbean flavors. Best BBQ is Porky's in Apopka. 4R is tremendously overrated. That's my take.

I agree with the hype...4R blows away Porkys and every other BBQ place in town, and in Florida for that matter.
