My job is near Universal, but my ~150K budget won't support buying a house in Dr. Phillips or downtown. That being the case, I am considering Clermont. The turnpike commute seems bearable and house prices seem decent. Anyone have any advice regarding neighborhoods?

Look into Williamsburg as well. It's a heck of a lot closer, and in a more convenient area. You should be able to find something around $150k, but it most likely won't be updated.

We just moved to the Clermont area, and love it. It is so pretty out here, and you can definitely get more for your money. You can find a nice sized house with a decent lot for that amount here. But, if I were you, I wouldn't wait too long. The housing market is going back up, so there isn't much for sale out there right now (especially houses that aren't short sale or foreclosures) and the home values are starting to rise. The mortgage rates are also going up, so if you're going to buy, I wouldn't waste too much time.

I would suggest just driving around, and getting a feel for the different neighborhoods you like. You can find anything from new construction to older homes in the Downtown Clermont district. There are a lot of nice neighborhoods off of John Hancock, Citrus Tower, etc.

Plenty of neighborhoods in your price range, but as the previous poster mentioned, prices are on the rise.

Potential options would be Greater Pines, Greater Hills, College Park, East Ridge, Skyridge Valley, the list goes on. Try to get into East Ridge High and Windy Hill Middle is schools are important.

The commute is quite manageable now that construction on the Turnpike and 50 is complete.
