I understand that Blue Springs State Park has a lot of manatees that visit there in the winter months? Would now be a good time to head up there to see them? Is that a good place?

The season has been pretty warm so far, they may not be up there yet. Just wait until we have our first real cold spell and that's the best time to see them.

correct. Needs to get colder. The Springs are at 72 year round. Needs to be much colder than that for the manatees to want to go to the 72 degree springs.

They indeed have started to show up at Blue Springs! In the latest report they counted 25, though during very cold temps later this winter that number will be in the hundreds.

Latest Manatee Update: November 10-11, 2013
I decided to go down to the park on Sunday and that was a good thing as the park counted 10 manatees and I counted 25. May the manatee was in with a new calf as was Sofie, along with some other unidentified cow. I hope I can ID her with the film I shot. I ID’d 20 of the 25 but saw no adoptees. However Ranger Diane told me she had film of Phyllis and calf from Friday, and on Monday, I confirmed it! It got a bit cool on Saturday, but the river temp on Sunday was still 71°. The park was crowded.

I can always go up later, also. But I'm looking for somewhere to get away this weekend where I haven't been yet in Florida. I might make the trip and see what I see. I assume there's no swimming with/touching them at Blue Springs?

Yeah you can't touch them. Go up this weekend, there will be some there and it shouldn't be as crowded as it gets later in the year when they're really packed into the run. There is an elevated boardwalk all along the spring run so it makes viewing manatees, alligators, turtles and fish very easy. While you're there take some time to explore the rest of Blue Spring State park as well, you won't regret it.

It's odd that they're understandably hands-off at Blue Springs, but people can even swim with them at Silver Springs near Tampa. I don't understand why it's hands-off at one place, and 50 miles away one can swim with and pet them?
