I have been reading a lot of the threads and was hoping for advise on my situation. I have accepted a promotion that requires relocation to Orlando for 2 yrs. as this is not long term I'd prefer to lease versus purchase. I'm looking for a minimum 2 bed 1.5 bath condo or townhouse. I'd also consider a house if lawn / maintenance were provided. The office is near UCF - schools are not a concern. Quite, safety, and small dog friendly are most important. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I would recommend checking out Oviedo, which is north of UCF and fairly convenient commute wise. Largely it's well outside the sphere of student housing around UCF, pretty quiet and dog friendly with lots of single family homes and townhomes with small yards.

Hi FlBell!

I also just moved to Orlando for a job near UCF. I rented an apartment at Knightsbridge at Stoneybrook (Knightsbridge at Stoneybrook Apartments - Apartments in Orlando, FL), basically in Avalon Park (although I don't think it's technically part of that community) and it's great so far - very clean, quiet, complex is double-gated, upscale golf course community, nice landscaping, apartment has a great layout and the neighbors seem like normal working people. They are also super pet-friendly - only $300 deposit and no monthly pet rent. I have two cats myself, but I know they take dogs because lots of my neighbors have them.

I think I am farther away from my job than I would be living in Oviedo, but it's still not a bad commute, 15-20 minutes on an average day. There is construction down on Alafaya Trail right now, but it looks like it's coming to an end, and I think when it's finished the commute from here to UCF will get even better. I haven't been here long enough to have a basis of comparison for this area vs. Oviedo (or anywhere else), but here is what I like best so far about living down near Avalon Park/Stoneybrook:

1) Super close to Waterford Lakes shopping, restaurants, big movie theater, Publix and a Super Target, etc
2) Also close to stuff at Avalon Park
3) But...even though it's so close to shopping it's still in almost a rural setting - SO quiet and not much development, lots of natural areas, trees, lakes, etc
4) We went to Cocoa Beach a few weeks ago, and it was only 50 minutes from our front door to being on the beach (we timed it!). Innovation Way to the Beachline toll road has been virtually empty every single time we've driven it.
5) Also pretty close to the airport if you take the Beachline, so if you travel a lot that could be a big plus
