We will be moving to the Orlando area and I've been looking at apartment reviews--so many complain about thin walls and neighbor noise. Can anyone recommend a complex that has decent soundproofing? We are open to all areas. We are in our late 40s and quiet. Have a cat so allowing pets is a must. We are looking for either a 2 or 3 bedroom, preferably a 3. Can spend up to $2,300/month, but prefer to keep it around $1,600. Pluses: gated community, pool, higher end furnishings, but most important is quiet (understanding that it IS an apartment and some noise is unavoidable). We will be down end of next month for 10 days for a wedding and are hoping to drive around and check out some places/neighborhoods. We want to rent for a year or 2 until we are comfortable with a neighborhood. Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can give.

Forget an apartment, for that price you can rent a house.

True, but most homes I find have terrible bathroom/kitchen fixtures. That matters to us.

I think you can find a very nice townhome or even a SFH that's updated for a little over $2k/month. I would forget the apt, since there's a good chance you might have someone on either side of you, and above and below you. It's a matter of deciding what else is important to you, and then we can narrow down options on where in the Orlando area. Best places to consider would be Winter Park, Windermere, and Dr. Phillips. All of which will be the most expensive, however there are plenty of cheaper areas.

Thanks Mr. Idealism. We have friends in Casselberry, Oviedo, and Hunter's Creek and will be looking at their apartments/homes/neighborhoods next month (though they all have noise issues which is why I'm asking here lol). I like being north of Disney (especially Windermere) since that is where most of our friends are located. I was concerned even considering a townhome since that is still a neighbor issue is it not? Guess I'll keep looking at SFH ads just for ideas, as availability changes so quickly. When we get a couple of months out then do serious searching. So far, the SFH ads I've been drawn to don't allow cats.

pets can be an issue for people behind you when you move - its is awful if they have allergies. like hazmat has to clean the place out and if has carpet -- forget it. IT is not fun to see on a little child... I see more n more-- NO pets.

Tinytrump,
I completely understand! NYC apartments don't have carpets so it's not an issue. I'd actually prefer no carpeting but that seems difficult to find in the Orlando area. We have so many rugs (most NYC apartment leases state you must cover 80% of the floors--to cut down on noise transference).

The responses have given us lots to look at and think about as we prepare for the move. Thanks everyone!
