What do Puerto Ricans in Orlando think about the Puerto Ricans from NYC? (Kissimmee: fit in, legally)

90% of them (personal estimate) are from NY or have parents that are from NY so they probably think of them the same as they think of themselves.

I see. However, when I went to Orlando I felt I didn't fit in with the Puerto Ricans in Orlando. I dress very different from them. Most of the Puerto Ricans that I saw were speaking only Spanish. Most of the Puerto Ricans from NYC speaks Spanglish or just English. Even though we like Reggaeton, and Salsa. Many of us listen to Hip Hop and Freestyle(such as TKA,Coro, Cynthia, Stevie B) not Freestyle as in Rap but Freestyle as in dance freestyle. I see the Puerto Ricans in Orlando more Puerto Ricanized as opposed to more Americanized..

I agree that the ricans from Ny are more americanized. However, the orlando ricans are more recent.... they're still first and second gen ricans where as the ones from NY have been in the US much longer, therefore more "American"

I go to Orlando often, and have found that there are lots of people from the Dominican Republic that went to Puerto Rico illegally first, passing as Puerto Ricans in Orlando, and they seem to come from the ghettos.

Puerto Rico received a tremendous invasion of illegals not only from D/R, but also from Mexico.

Yes, Puerto Rico has many immigrants from all over. Many Colombians, Peruvians, Mexicans, large amounts of Dominicans particularly in the San Juan area, Hatians, and surprisingly, an increasing large amounts of Palestinians and other Arab ethnicities.

To answer the question of the OP, as a Puerto Rican coming directly from the island, you see a huge difference between Puerto Ricans from the island versus Nuyoricans as well as other large northeastern cities, almost two completely different cultures. I wouldn't say the opinion is completely negative, however, from what I have observed at least, many will quickly and clearly say they are directly from the island rather than the Northeast, mainly because of negative comments geared towards Puerto Ricans here in the United States. These negative comments aren't just here in Florida, I experienced them even in New York City while I was on a vacation (I was not visiting family, since I have no family there). The majority of these negative comments come from other Latin Americans of different nationalities.

Also, I am not sure where the 90% figure posted above came from, it makes absolutely no sense.

I don't know enough to comment on the real issue here but I can always appreciate good Freestyle...YES!!! Stevie B does club shows here often and sometimes they will have MicMac or Freestyle All Stars concerts. I once heard a rumor Johnny O is now selling Kia's in Kissimmee.

One time I saw a Asian kid ( obviously didn't know much about America) wearing a brown pride sweater with a lowrider on it.

Is that the consensus with most Puerto Ricans then? A Mexican, Asian, African-American, etc...would be laughed at or thought of as inappropriate to wear a Puerto Rican hat?
