Hi everyone, this is my first post and the following question is what inspired me to join the forum. I used the search feature to see if this question had been asked and I couldn't find anything. Anyway, I am planning to move to Orlando by the end of the year and am interested in the Wardrobe Attendant position at Universal and/or the Costuming Hostess at Disney. Disney states that Costuming Hostesses start at 8.03/hr but I cannot find any information about the starting wage at Universal. Also, I have worked as a wardrobe attendant for 2 years at a casino, making more than Disney's starting wage so do you think I would get hired in at a slightly higher wage based on my experience? Thanks everyone

The theme parks here usually just hire at their own starting rates unless it's for a corporate or managerial position. However, you may get the job over someone with no prior experience.

Agree with Cranes. They pay what they pay, and if you don't like it, too bad. Universal pays within a few cents either way of what Disney pays.

Disney is about 30 miles away from downtown Orlando so depending on what area you live you have to factor in the traffic and drive time .Is it worth it to drive that far for 8.03 hr? Where do you live now and why Orlando?

I'm not concerned about the drive or traffic. I currently live in Ohio but previously drove over an hour each way to get to work before I moved. I also have friends living in Orlando. They currently live in Cumberland Apartments on International and are moving to a house in Windermere. I am going to move with them to their house because I want to get out of the midwest.

I've worked at Disney about a year ago and they paid me around that wage also. Trust me, it is not worth the time and effort if you are looking to work for the company long-term. I worked there because I just wanted to have a fun job, so I did my time there and moved on. I'm sure you wouldn't want to get paid 8 bucks an hour for years on end, that being said, it's also very hard to get a professional position at Disney. Think you can get overtime easily? Not anymore. People abused the system so much back then that Disney is super strict on giving overtime now. And not concerned about traffic you said? I've been stuck in traffic for 2.5 hours before on my way home from Disney. I'm not trying to make you feel discouraged or anything, just letting you know so that you can prepare yourself before moving down here.

If I could give only one piece of advice to people moving down to Orlando, it's to secure a job that you could live off of first before making the move.

Good luck with everything!
