In person you can say "i gotta run", on the message boards you can just scroll down.

The blinds and garage doors were always closed so they wouldn't have seen the moving truck. Thanks for the kind wishes as usual.

Keep "wondering" and look for my posts in the Boston forum. Let me know how you make out ...

Ah, Boston. That explains a lot.

Not sure what it explains since I'm not from there originally ...

Maybe they speak to you while you are both out trimming hedges or something.

IMO, people move to FL to have a good time. and are very inwardly driven to do that. Basically not caring beyond their lives/home/activities. Now my grown kids still have friends from school and they are good friends.

Yes, when I moved into this neighborhood I made cookies and visited. never again either.

BINGO!

I had a neighbor I went over to talk to because our trash wasn't being picked up, so I thought if more people called the better. She was clearly annoyed when she opened the door, we ended up chatting about 20 minutes about various things(although I was never invited in). She than said(and it was sincere) "nice talking to you" like that was something amazing.

Of the 5 states I have lived in FL had the least friendly people. I used to laugh at people who thought it was friendlier than the north because some stranger might wave at you as you drive down the street and they're walking.....yes, they wave, but if you stopped the car and actually talked to them they would freak.

A lot of has to do with the transient and elder population. I have heard comments like why get to know the new neighbors they could be gone in 2 yrs, to not wanting to get to know older people because they could pass soon or might need your assistance.

3. You take the cookies, thank the little girl, and then dispose of them if you don't want them. Simple ...
4. She's a bad neighbor because my decision on the appliances affected her interaction with us. She came over initally, buttered us up with her welcome & life story and then ditched us because we said no on her ridiculous offer. And what sane person has her sons in our driveway with moving equipment ?

Nice try though ...
1. Then she was a jerk.
2. YES.
3. I didn't see that it was a little girl, I thought you were talking about an adult. That said, I would never send my child to a strangers home--or allow them to go--even if they lived right next door.
4. I still don't see her as a bad neighbor, although having her sons in the driveway is weird.

For what it's worth, we are Yankees who moved to a southern neighborhood where most of the residents are original owners. Across the street are Ohioans, like we are, yet they do not wave or acknowledge us, ever.
My theory is that, since we are friendly with their next door neighbor, and they have an ongoing feud with him (they let their pets poo in his yard), they think we would not like them either. It's just a theory.
I did just speak to the guy in question at the store yesterday, so maybe I can get him to thaw a little. If I do say so, we are really fun people, and he is missing out.

1. And still is ...
2. The police would either not have showed up or laughed and dismissed us ... not worth the trouble.
3. I was about 10' behind her on the sidewalk. Agree with never let her go to neighbor alone.
4. Welcoming at first, weird in the driveway, and ignoring us forever is not my idea of neighborly

Strange, affluent neighborhood ... at least in our immediate vicinity.
