No, Schools like Bentley and Heathrow were overcrowded so the county built Crystal Lake Winch doesn't have a "zone" it is completely filled by parents that made the choice to send their child their. In your presvious post you stated how Bentley was partially better because it is "newer", but now that you have been proved wrong it doesn't matter. Crystal Lake outperforms Bentley in every academic category.

I've visited all of these schools recently and spoke to parents and teachers of both as well.

Crystal Lake does look newer as far as a building goes but Bentley was very clean and nice. Parents I spoke to in both schools were very happy and had great things to say.

Heathrow Elementary ... Someone told me that was the newest school or a newer school. Building may be old but that's what they told me.

You were right and I was wrong. I would guess since Crystal Lake was built Bentley dropped in performance as it's now Minority majority (52%) and more heavily populated with students from economically disadvantaged homes (nearly 50% are on free lunch). That's sad because it used to be more highly rated but has dropped a bit it appears on the test scores I just looked at. Seminole County thinks that this "School Choice" program is such a great idea but in retrospect they should see it's not beneficial for all. It's a racially motivated initiative brought about by Heathrow parents who didn't want their children to suffer the disgrace of attending classes with Sanford residents, and has been cloaked as a cure-all for overpopulation which is a load of BS.....and since it separates largely the "haves from the have nots" it sets some up for success while others struggle and can get left behind. The administration/teachers at Bentley has done a great job of keeping standards as close to standard as possible but one can now see what will happen to many when they're blended with students from other higher performing elementary schools at the middle school level...get left further behind.

I don't actually have the knowledge on the reason for the making the choices system, but I feel that the initiative behind it was the opposite. I feel like it was established to distribute the the low income students throughout other schools. So that some of the schools that are actually located in these low income areas wouldn't be overwhelmingly failures. Either that or their were too many schools in such close proximity that instead of being criticized for zoning they'd give them options. Heathrow Elementary isn't actually apart of the choices zone, it has its own zone that includes Heathrow, and neighboring neighborhoods. Its not to say Low income students don't have the potential to do good as Goldsboro Elementary is one of the best schools in Seminole County, but it is 60% free/reduced lunch, and 66% minority.

I would hope that was the reasoning but given the verbal backlash I've heard around here from residents on the west side in reference to having their kids sent to Sanford Middle School or Seminole High School, I would have to side more with the flip side of the coin in terms of why.
