I have an interview in Baldwin Park, and if I get it, both my jobs will be near the downtown area. If I get this job in Baldwin Park, it will no longer make sense for me to stay on the far south side of Orlando, as one of my jobs requires me to commute to the Mills/50 area on weekdays via I-4, and that is costing me $70 a week in gas

I know theres a lot of great areas east of Downtown (ie Thornton Park, Mills/50, Colonialtown, etc) besides being close to Downtown, Fashion Sq Mall, etc what is it like to actually live around here?

Weekdays, I-4, $70 per week in gas!!! Sounds like a job for SunRail. Seriously, for like $80 bucks a month you could ride unlimited and I believe the xfer to Lynx is then free, so shooting over to Baldwin should be a breeze.

Edited to say that you could live much cheaper, and further away from downtown yet still have simple, and cheaper access to your job. Think about it, now is the perfect time for people to rethink how and where they live to make transit a more viable option.

And then the other 3-3.5 weeks, that $250 will easily help reduce his/her rent

I live in Thornton Park and love it, but it's not cheap. Areas a bit more to the E and N, such as the Milk District and Mills/50 are considerably more affordable.

Living downtown is very different than living elsewhere, but your experience will depend on exactly where you move. It will be a different experience living by Fashion Square than living in Thornton Park, for example.

I am extremely familiar with all the areas you named. If you tell me what you want in a location (walkability, quiet, short distance to public transport, a yard, whatever) and your budget, I can help you narrow it down.

I'd nevereverever move out of downtown. But it isn't for everyone.

I loved living downtown. I moved out to find a bigger place but I'm already looking for a way to move back. It's so convenient and there's always something to do. I loved walking to most everything I need and not having to worry about parking when there was a big event. Most people are very nice and move dt for the same feasons. Most like minded folks tend to get along. At your age Davie I say go for it. Also, living dt is about more than just partying. My most enjoyable times weren't late on the weekend but doing everyday activities.

In response to you ORL, Sunrail is not a viable option if I take this job in Baldwin Park....mainly because it's a 20 minute drive to the Sand Lake station from the SeaWorld area, and this job wouldn't be letting out until well after the train stops running.

So it makes more sense to move to the Downtown area than stay in my far south suburb and spend my life on I-4

Gotcha. I won't lie but certain phrasing like Monday thru Friday and living on I-4 seemed to suggest you'd be commuting during peak hours.

Still I get your desire to avoid it at all costs. My job is not during peak traffic times yet I still prefer transit ave reading a book.

So that said, check Craigslist for listings in Colonial Town, the Milk District, and maybe even Mills50, or Audubon Park.

I recently moved over to the Milk District/Lake Como area, it's a quick jump over to Baldwin Park. Very affordable compared to the more central downtown area but is still very close to everything. Some great places to eat and drink and you can jump on 408 if you need to get to I-4 in a hurry.

Davie, I second the suggestion of COlonialtown and the Milk district. Much cheaper than downtown, Thornton Park, etc. You should be able to find something you really like for a reasonable rent.
