Maybe we'll start getting the huge themed hotels like LV, but who knows.
Its definitely a well made area for Orlando, what was there before the Festival Bay?

The new development that replaced Festival Bay is called Artegon Marketplace and its a pretty big ugly mess. Its supposed to be like a flea market for artists to show their wares but when I went it was as empty as Festival Bay used to be but also uglier,no water feature, just a big space with a bunch of metal cages to divide the spaces. It may improve and become something worthwhile but when I went it was pretty bad and I can't see myself going over there again until I hear something good goes in as even the things being sold just seemed like junk.

There's some decent vendors but I agree, it feels just as ghost town-like as the former mall. I thought they were going to remodel the entire layout of the mall but they basically just gutted it. I've always felt like a major problem has been the architecture.. the entire back side of the mall has no entrances. It's bizarre. A mall there should work, considering the massive success of the outlets across the street.

BlackPeach, were you asking what was there before the original Festival Bay? Nothing- just forest.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artegon_Marketplace

Doesnt seem like much of an attraction, more like a shopping mall with golf course and movie theater. Still interesting never the less.

I actually like the idea of Artegon. They're renting out the storefronts to anchors and leaving the middle section for the artists. Over the years, I see it becoming a cool local mall. I think the biggest problem it has is trying to diversify itself from Millenia, which is right around the corner, the outlet malls, which are right across the street, and Florida Mall, which is right up the road.

The idea was to lease to artisans, and create a new shopping experience.
It hasn't worked.

The cost to operate the place and lease can't possibly be in the black.
Last I heard artists still pay 10% of sales, and their utility fees are being covered by incentive monies from the County, possibly city.

It needs a real school or a scheduled place for daily/weekly classes inside.
The foot traffic from shopping along is not going to support that place.

Sad.
