Mr. D, can we have your house in Raleigh? j/k
Wife would prefer Raleigh over Winston-Salem.

And it's official; I withdrew my name from consideration. I'll probably never know if they hired someone else and just didn't tell me, or if they were just taking forever to make a decision. It just didn't feel right.

Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions.

Surely if you can convince your wife to move to Orlando, you can convince her to move to Raleigh? Raleigh has a very well balanced group of professionals, great atmostphere, great surrounding area with excellent schools and universities especially, and you get 4 seasons, a good economy for sure, and not too far from the mountains or the beach.

Wife would prefer Raleigh. When we moved to NC iin 2005 (from Portland, OR), the original plan was to move there. But I got a job further east, in Greenville NC. We have a second home about 40 minutes northeast of Raleigh, so a move to Raleigh has always been a goal. My current job brought us to Winston-Salem, just 1.5 hour west of Raleigh. I'm the one that now prefers Winston-Salem over Raleigh - Raleigh homes are more expensive; that's the main factor. Our daughter is in a very good school system here. I've been looking for jobs in Raleigh anyway, but haven't seen anything to date.

You don't really want to come here do you? Employment opportunities are not great, pay is below national average, traffic congestion is terrible, people are (especially behind the wheel of a car) rude. Everyone is in a hurry. I could go on and on. Of course if you're a motorcycle rider you might like the fact that you can ride 12 months out of the year. If you like beaches we have them too, but other than that...

That is why we left 9 years ago after being in Orlando for 17. The density of people and traffic took away the old Orlando charm. When people get too compacted in an area they become more aggressive, more rude, more nasty. If you had 20 rats in a cage and then added another 20 rats there would be problems in that cage that would lead to the death of the weakest rats.

Same with metro Orlando. It is just too dense. Too many people came there. Its overloaded.

It makes it less relevant.
