Agree!

I was surprised to hear that they were having their own soccer stadium built when the Citrus Bowl just sits there until bowl season and the occasional high school game. Granted I am new to the area so it may have been a big topic in the past, but it seems very wasteful. This is a whole different discussion, but I can't see an MLS soccer team being a "big draw" for crowds.

What facility in Orlando is suitable for MLS Soccer? Oh wait...none.

They'll have to park a lot of cars to make 4M. That's a decrepit building in a horrible neighborhood. They should have taken the 4M and ran.

What "two existing underused facilities" are you referring to? The only sporting venue in Orlando that is somewhat underused is the Citrus Bowl, which is not MLS-compatible, that is why a new soccer-specific stadium is being built. What is the second facility you are referring to?

It IS MLS compatible--they held FIFA World Cup games there in the 90's!

Wrong again. MLS prefers a smaller capacity than the 66K or higher Citrus Bowl. Even when the Orlando City were setting attendance records for the USL, the games looked empty due to approximately only 1/3 of the seats being filled.

And the part where you suggest the Citrus Bowl is MLS compatible because of a World Cup match once being held there tells me you can't really tell the difference between an MLS game and a World Cup match and therefore are probably not qualified to speak on this issue.

I say build the darn stadium, build the arts center, the Amway Center, SunRail, and anything else we need to make downtown Orlando great. OR follow what the tax and spending whiners say and build nothing, and sew nothing, and reap nothing...that thinking belongs out in Lake County.

Yes the building part I like, keep on building. What am afraid of- is that in time families and people will shy away more and more from the huge venue, traffic noise, crazy fans etc and move further out and the church might find itself with less attendance. It may not happen, but in the end the pastor might not hear himself preach over the roars. The old folks will stay until they die, they probably founded the church and have much invested, but the next generation might not like the location at all.
