We have visited this area on a few vacations. We love the Mt. Dora area. We have decided that somewhere in this part of Florida would be wonderful for winter living. We are living on a very modest retirement income, we really love small town living where we can be outdoors, meet neighbors, walk the dogs, yet still be at the beach in 1 1/2 hour. We are actually considering a mobile home in a nice community. Have heard of many people finding older mobile homes for under $10,000 that they update themselves. We don't want a community with all the bells and whistles but not a 'trailer park' either. Low HOA, pool, lawn care and pet friendly. The big problem is looking for these communities and homes while living in MI. Not all Mobile Home communities are found on the Internet and so many homes are sold by owners. Does anyone have advice on how to do online searches for what we are looking for. Any advice is helpful, even suggestions of cities or communities to check into.

Close to where I live.
It's a simple, safe retirement spot right off 441 (the main thoroughfare) and 5 minutes away from downtown Mount Dora.
Publix is a 2 minute drive, Lake Dora/Gilbert Park is 2 or 3 minutes away... Check it out. You'll like it.
The public bus also stops right in front of it, so you even have easy access to public transit.

By the time you account for insurance, maintenance, lot rental fee, depreciation since mobile homes go down in value, no up, etc. it's probably going to be a better deal to rent for those months you spend in Florida than to buy something.

I agree that renting would be the best option but we have 4 small dogs, which there lies the problem. Most rentals do not accept pets or if they do it's only one allowed (even though all 4 of ours weigh only 25# total)! I have been looking for rentals and interesting rentals are already booked for next winter.

Check for rentals on Craigslist as well. Private owners are more inclined to rent to someone with multiple dogs. One other option maybe a travel trailer. You can get a really nice one under 10K. You could park it in storage at the campground while not in use which would be a lot less. (usually $30/mo)

You can try these places as well:

Twelve Oaks RV Resort home

Town and Country R.V. Resort: Home

Central Florida Area RV Park Camping: Wekiva Falls RV Resort

They have lots of snowbirds and all the amenities you are looking for.
