I can tell you that my family in an inner city neighborhood in Chicago have more issues with certain type of prejudice than I've ever experienced in Central Florida. Now, that said, I agree with Kyle that there are certain parts outside the metro that can get scary and you would want to steer clear.
My point/perspective wasn't from that of a gay male, rather the OP who happens to be Transgender. There are very few places (if any in actuality) in the Orlando area where I felt it would be a comfortable place to live, which isn't exactly a slap in the face to this region as there are very few metro areas in the country where that would be the case.

Fair enough about the transgendered part, I'm pretty sure America as a whole is really just now beginning to nibble on that concept and what those people are going through. However, you labeled Central Florida as mainly conservative and I disagree. Perhaps looking at an election map you'd see more red all over but keep in mind those counties are mainly rural and have less population. The blue counties are the metros and the higher populations so in my opinion, it's not mainly conservative. Florida is a weird state though, more registered democrats by a landslide, yet we elect republicans. Maybe we can blame it on the excuse that Fl is socially liberal and fiscally conservative, but then again that's all just political crap I don't care to get into further. All I'm really saying is that the core metro counties will be fine for any member of the GLB and T community.

Try the Hard Rock hotel chain, AllState Insurance, the company that Owns Ceasers and many of the more predominent casinos, many of the large scale time shares... those are ones with huge diversification policies that are in your principle fields. Many of the hotels have diversity policies even if you end up working a call center or booking. Time share exchanges, the port of canaveral for cruise lines, the federal job listings in the area require diversification. Believe it or not there are jobs other than waiting tables. Disney Vacation Club and West Lake Resorts are always looking for people with sales and customer service experience. I wish I could give you the link but I have been having problems finding it, but there is a listing of companies with diversification like All State, JP Morgan Chase, Hard Rock, HCR (Company that owns Ceasers chains), and the top companies many with trans insurance, unfortunately if you are full time and diagnosed they may hit you with pre-exist condition. My partner and I are looking to relocate to the area because of the number of jobs and her background is similar to yours.

murphy, honestly, you're like 16 years old. U wanna move all the way to florida so u can be gay? it's 2011 baby, it doesn't matter where u move. Afterall, you're NY, people there are quite tolerant, OMG have u been to NYC?! that city started the gay rights movement.... think "stonewall"

anyway, to answer ur questions some parts of florida are gay friendly, many parts, but just like anywhere else, there are pasrts that are uber NOT gay friendly too. .

Miami and Fort Lauderdale are probably the gayest-friendly areas in florida. especially fort lauderdale. There is a neighborhood in lauderdale called "Wilton Manors" and that is largest city on the east coast of the US that has a mainly gay population, only west hollywood as a bigger gay population.

Orlando does have gay bars and an active gay scene. However many parts of orlando are also very conservative and "bible belty"

If i was u, I would look more toward fort lauderdale, FL. However check out NY's gay scene? i dunno tho, maybe u live in upstate NY, and that would be lame omg
