Winter Springs, Winter Garden, Winter Park...am I missing any? Just curious if there is some historical fact that led to all of these places being named Winter X.

I believe they are all towns where northerners would purchase property to come in the winter.

Makes sense. Although I never would have guessed that.

There's a local joke I heard a while back. Anything in CFL that ends with a Park is rich (Winter Park, College Park, Thornton Park, Delaney Park). Anything that ends with a Spring is nice (Altamonte Springs, Winter Springs, Wekiva Springs). And anything that ends with a Hill stay away from (Pine Hills, Spring Hill, Holy Hill, Howey-in-the-Hills). Not entirely accurate but funny none the less.

That's pretty funny. And I never realized how there are many other similar names as well, such as the Parks and the Springs.

I learned from the historical museum in Winter Garden that it got its name due to people from the north coming down on the train and learning that they could have a "garden" in the "winter." And was full of opportunities. One magazine I just read said that it was incorporated in 1903 and got its name from the fact that a tomato seed from a railroad worker's lunch sprouted and grew in the winter.
