Does anybody know how much unemployment compensation pays? Say for every $1000/month you make, how much will unemployment send to you. Thanks, and any other info is appreciated.

I don't know because the one time my husband went to apply for unemployment benefits after being layed off, he was told he had to be unemployed for 6 weeks before applying. This was at the Leesburg Unemployment office. He found a job in 3 weeks. Unemployment is useless really. I heard it doesn't pay much.

Unemployment pay depends on how long you have been in the work force, how much you were being paid at your lost job and whether or not your employer is going to fight paying you unemployment.

Here is some info

I got laid off from making a little less then 2000 a month and I made 500 every two weeks from unemployment. You can apply online now, no need to go to any office, I think you can access it through myflorida.com

I thought you can file immediately after getting laid off but don't get paid for the first week, however, you won't see a check for like 4 weeks due to processing.

The government is trying to improve the benefits and make them last longer with this whole economic "kick start" thing they are trying to pass.

Thats true about the first week being a waiting week however I didn't have to wait that long. I gave them my bank account number and they direct deposited the money pretty quickly. It was almost too easy.

Thanks everyone. So I guess they will pay about 1/2 of your normal income then?

If memory serves its a little less then half but I didn't have them take out taxes because I never end up having to pay any and get money back because I am a single Mom. This of course might be different for you but you do have the choice to NOT have taxes taken out of the money they give you.

The auto deposit is great as well.

I have been employed for 5 months. 4 1/2 of those months have been full time. I now have had my hours cut back to 20. Am I eligible for unemployment? I will probably lose my job altogether, so, I would like to know for the future.
