Hi! Looking into moving to Windermere, I am having difficulty locating the best schools for Elem., Middle AND HS. Here in NY, we have school districts. Is there a Windermere School District? I read Olympia HS is good, but would a resident of Windermere go to it? I am a bit confused ! Thanks for any help.

Windermere residents would either be assigned to Olympia or West Orange High Schools (at least, until the new relief high school opens in 2017).

Here's Olympia's zone: https://www.ocps.net/es/legislative/...ympia%20HS.pdf

Here's West Orange High School's map (it also shows Olympia and Dr. Phillips): https://www.ocps.net/es/legislative/...rnet%20map.pdf

I'm not totally sure which elementary and middle schools are considered the best, but Windermere Elementary has always been highly regarded.

School districts are based on counties, so all of Windermere would fall under Orange County Public Schools.

For elementary schools, you've got
Sunset Park
Windermere Elementary
Keene's Crossing
and possibly some of the Independence Elementary area. (The school is opening this fall, so I don't know if they've finalized the borders yet.)

For middle schools, you've got
Bridgewater Middle (for almost everyone)
Gotha Middle
and maybe a few addresses are zoned for Chain of Lakes Middle

For high schools, you've got
West Orange High
the 2017 Relief High School (27-H-W-4)
and a few addresses zoned for Olympia (mostly things in the old parts of Windermere)

It really is going to depend what age your kids are at to see where they will be going to school, because a lot of things are changing boundary-wise with multiple new elementary schools, a new middle school, and a new high school opening over the next 2-5 years. While the boundaries are not yet determined, it is pretty much a guarantee that everyone currently zoned in Windermere for West Orange High will be sent to the new school. In all likelihood all of the people in Windermere currently zoned for Bridgewater Middle will get the new middle school. And when it comes to elementary schools, it will be a chessboard to figure out who goes where, but with a daughter entering kindergarten this fall, I wouldn't have a problem sending her to any of those elementary schools.
