It seems like a lot of "stuff" has been going on in the news there over the last year.

Of course it is safe, UCF is one of the largest universities in the country (2nd largest in the country by undergraduate enrollment) and the immediate surrounding areas are mostly suburban and generally desirable. As with any major university, there are obvious petty crimes and campus-related police activity, but nothing major or out of the ordinary for a large college campus. Oviedo borders the north side of the campus, this is one of the highest rated and safest communities in Central Florida.

I personally wouldn't want to live in the area directly around the school. A lot of robberies at gunpoint in the apartment complexes there.

What about the shootings and arson over there?

Once again, most of these type of unfortunate incidents are within college students in collegiate housing communities surrounding the campus, in some cases they have been domestic incidents.

Here is the most recent crime stat report from the UCF Police Department:
http://police.ucf.edu/sites/default/...UCR%20DATA.pdf

As seen in the report, there are 0 murders reported within the last two years and in some categories crime has actually decreased. Considering that UCF is a giant campus with over 60,000 students these numbers are not bad at all..

Anywhere north of University Blvd. is fine for the most part, anywhere south of University is somewhat hit or miss though the apartments around Waterford are nice and Timber Creek seems pretty steady. So it all depends on where you're looking.

Smile UCF Alumni

I went to UCF from 2004-2008 and from what I remember University Blvd was the line of safety.

- North of University Blvd: Safe day or night
- South of University Blvd: Safe during the day.

If you're attending UCF and if you can, rent a house with a friend(s) you trust. I did and glad I did because 90% of the apartments were bad news. Does this information still hold up in 2015? I LOVED my time at UCF. Just had to remember where you can and can't go.

Seems to still be this way.

I wouldn't live around that area. My kids are very young. But I wouldn't let my kids go there to live on campus.
