Moving from Chicago to our new home in Clermont in a few months. We have a basement filled with stuff! From furniture that my parents had that my adult children want when they have their own homes, to boxes of baby clothes (the kids' and mine!), the taxes and important papers, and just everything we have wanted to keep through the years, we could, well, fill a basement! . So much purging must take place.

One thing we noticed when looking at homes was that basements are very rare. So without a basement, where does all the "stuff" get stored? Or are you all just really good at not keeping anything you don't use often? I've always had a basement, so this will be very interesting. On the bright side, I won't have to switch out the boxes of winter and summer clothing anymore! Purging the winter clothing will be very easy!

Good luck with your move! In my experience, things are stored in the attic, garage, closet spaces and storage facilities.

Thin out the amount of stuff, you probably don't really need it anyway if it was just sitting in a basement. Paying to store junk makes one rethink its worth.

If you do opt for self-storage, there are a glut of them here, at least in Orlando. It appears these places are doing well everywhere, so I'm sure there are plenty of options in Clermont as well.

You get rid of excessive stuff and whatever someone else wants they take before you move or it gets sold or donated.

Things that can take the heat can go in the attic. Lawn equipment can go in a backyard shed. Stuff that must be climate controlled gets stored somewhere inside the house. Everything else goes in the garage.

Storage unit. Rent more than one if you need to.

Storage units are expensive as ****, though.
I had one for a good minute, and for a halfway decent-sized one I was paying around $100/month. By halfway decent, I mean 8x10.
