My husband has a job offer at a hospital in Lake Nona and would like to accept the position and move to Orlando asap. However, we have a son with learning challenges who is attending a wonderful school here in Texas where he is happy and thriving. I found a school in Maitland that I think would be able to accommodate my son and help him continue to grow and thrive (Center Academy). I am just wondering if the commute from Lake Nona Medical Center to Maitland is feasible? How long would it take at 7:30 in the morning? Would we start to hate life after a week? We live in San Antonio and make a daily 30 minute commute each way to school and to work, so we are used to traffic. I'm just not sure what traffic in Orlando is like or if this distance is just unreasonable. I suppose we could also live in a community between Maitland and Lake Nona, but again, I am wondering about traffic. Thanks for any help.

If you're leaving at 7:30 am it could be doable in about 30-45 minutes. From Maitland you could take 436 to Goldenrod or 408 to Goldenrod. It would not be an easy commute but given your son's situation, a worthy one.

Belle Isle/Conway might be a good in-between place to live, don't know it well, but I've heard decent things.

There are quite a few in-between places you can pick from.
Generally-speaking, the toll roads are the best way to avoid traffic.

That said, I suggest you live near the 429/Turnpike intechange, that way you can take the 429 to 414 into Maitland (a 15-20 min commute) and the Turnpike to 528 into Lake Nona

I live downtown in the Lake Cherokee Historic District. I work in Lake Nona and my kids go to school in Maitland. No complaints about commutes from me.

What route do you use to get to Maitland from downtown?

Thanks so much for the replies. Lots to think about. I hadn't considered west Orlando, so I am looking there now. I also didn't think about toll roads, since we don't have any here. I would gladly pay the toll for a bit of traffic relief.

West Orlando isn't going to be convenient to either Lake Nona or Maitland, so unless you like longer drives/commutes wouldn't think that would be a logical option. The College Park/Highland Lake/Park Lake area north of downtown Orlando along with Conway would be the best options if you don't want to spend a good bit of the day driving.
