The house my family is moving to does not have a pool, but I will be adding one! I have to wonder though if my family's expectations of swimming 9 months of the year are unrealistic?

Every contractor has different options for heating the pool, but coming from Chicago, with a solar mat as our heater that we were happy with if the water got above 80 degrees, I'm wondering if we really even need a heater in Orlando? If we don't heat an in-ground pool, will we be waiting until July for the water to heat up to 80? The pool contractors seem to think so. Anyone have advice for us regarding need for a pool heater?

Most people want a heater of some sort, I would recommend getting a solar power pool heater. They work really well in Florida. If you want 80 degree water, you need a heater though.

I have no heater- my water is 80ish (depending on day) from Late May until September.
Solar would likely add April and October.

Heat Pump will get you 4 weeks more on top of that.

Today the Weather Channel predicts an Orlando high of 79 & a low of 58. That's a spread of 21 degrees.

Without a heater (gas, electric, or solar) your Dec 10th pool water is going to be about 68-69 degrees.

A plastic solar cover might conserve a couple additional degrees to the plus side.

Without a heater, no pool is going to be much warmer than the average mean temperature.

It depends on the size of your pool
