FL as a whole is middle of the pack, nationally. There are pockets of excellence throughout

We are a family of 4 surviving on barely $25k... I am hoping to get this new job offer that pays $40k. (My husband is finishing school so that is why we have only 1 income).

$80k is PLENTY! I wish we were that fortunate. Budget yourself right and you can live perfectly fine.

How? And where? 25k to support 4 people would require some sort of government assistance, right? I mean, that's $480/week before taxes. Probably around $400 after taxes. Even with an $800 rent, that's half of your monthly income.

It really all depends on lifestyle. $80k/yr sounds like a lot to some, but in reality, if you want to own a modest house and at least 2 decent vehicles, and have your children involved in sports/extra-curricular activities, you realize that it really isn't much. It's a solid household income, yes, but it's definitely not a lot.

I bought a home last June in Maitland for $190k (3/2 1750 sq foot). Mortgage including insurance is $1050 a month which is $100 a month less than I was paying in rent for an older, smaller house (albeit with a bigger yard) in Altamonte Springs. And we only put 10% down.

I agree and you'll have a much better lifestyle in FL than CA on $80K, a world of difference actually.
