Can you compare the weather during all of the seasons? And how are thunderstorms down there? What are winters like? Are they cooler or warmer than San Francisco?

What do you do for a living, if you are a carpenter, can you help me out?

And can you give me if you can, more desirable 2 bedroom big/cheap apartments that are in a tree-filled area, like mine on 840 Walnut Street, San Carlos, California?

Thanks

I'm from the bay area of CA and have lived in Sarasota, FL and North Palm Beach, FL now I'm looking to move to Fort Lauderdale or Orlando from AZ. Although the cost of living in Florida will be a lot less than CA in today's economy that really just means rent is lower or the ability to buy a home which you could do in FL but not CA. Day to day costs are similar except gas is much lower in FL but you will need air conditioning in FL for at 6 months our of the year which is a big expense. Wages are a lot lower in FL than CA you really need to keep that in mind especially since your rent is low for CA. Trades in air conditioning are steady work in FL but construction could be much slower/saturated. Also you may need to speak Spanish to get a job. The weather in FL is very humid and the Tampa bay is the lightening capitol of the world. Keep in mind crime is seriously high in Orlando, you would need to be careful that your carpenter tools don't get stolen and that your son is safe. If I had a good paying job in CA that was steady and low rent in safe area I would not move. If I wanted to eventually buy a home and had a high paying job in FL than I would move. Hope this helps.

Orlando is very spread out so crime doesn't spread much like in San Francisco, where criminals from the worst areas can easily walk to the nice areas. I keep my lawn mower and bikes in my driveway with no lock, no gate, no hoa security. In San Francisco, your car will be broken into if you have a grocery bag in the backseat.

Sorry, I didn't know you replied to my post.

Winter tends to be colder in Orlando at night, but warmer during the day compared to San Francisco.
Spring and Fall is similar to September/October in San Francisco.
Summer is hot and humid, but nowhere near as bad as Hong Kong, Bangkok etc.
Thunderstorms generally don't last long, maybe 30 minutes and are quite relaxing. They are most common during the summer months.
There are a lot of tree lined streets, with much fuller trees than the ones at your address.

I would not downplay the crime in Orlando especially to someone who has kids. The stats are for violent crime are national average 366, San Carlos 396, San Francisco 795 and Orlando 901. For Burglary average 543, San Carlos 522, San Francisco 616 and Orlando 1,287. Every city has bad neighborhoods and safer suburbs but Orlando has gotten a 10 on a scale from 1-10 for being unsafe many years in a row. Orlando is more like Oakland than SF or San Carlos.

But he has a point. It's kind of s running joke but a lot of truth to it. In FL, you don't leave anything around on a job site unless you want it stolen. If things are nailed down here, they will be gone the next day, that goes for tools, ac units, copper wiring, Elec wiring, paint buckets, etc.

Anyplace in Central Florida is going to have spectacular thunderstorms with lots of lightning almost daily in the summer. Do you really want to work outside in such heat and humidity when most people stay indoors during those times?

The West Coast generally pays better than the East Coast and even they pay better than Florida. I see at least a half dozen or more new commercial construction projects every time I go out and that doesn't include the many new homes. Not sure who the contractors are however if you can do take offs I'll include this link - Estimator REQ# 3764 - compasshrm
