It seems like many people here have lots of questions about pool screen enclosures, and very limited information.

Ask me anything and I'll tell you what I know!

I decided on posting this in the Orlando section, as central Florida has more screen enclosures then almost anywhere else.

Why do you think central FL has the most screen enclosures?

I gather ins. does not pay if they blow away- why? I do not have one, but would love to-- only because I have seasons of suicidal bugs-- see them all flying in the sunset,, by AM- all dead in my pool

You're right, general insurance policies do not cover accessory structures but you can get a rider for them for an additional amount. It all comes down to isolating and quantifying risk. According to the Florida building code, Screen enclosures and fall into a different risk category than habitable structures and therefore are not built to such standards, They are higher risk then a home or higher risk category structure.

Can you break down the types of enclosure material. Ive heard some are cheaply made and some are better.

Is there a difference in screening......uv rays..... bugs getting in and if so what should I look for?

Is there a particular standard as so how many anchors Must be used per say every 3 feet.

Thank you

Hope you're still around. I have two questions.

1. Is there something I can do to keep the squirrels off? My cat scares them and they scream like steel rubbing on steel. I can chase them around with a hose, but they usually just run back and forth. They're such a pain. Could I spray something that would keep them off?

2. Do you really have to get a whole new section if you get a hole? My friend said she paid $300 to replace a section, so I've been avoiding it. It's a little bigger than a quarter, so I live with it, but I'd like it fixed. No clue how the hole got there. (Maybe the squirrels.)

These are common question so I have covered the main types on my site here and also have a picture of all the screens lined up: 4 Types Of Screen Every Home Owner Should Know About and What To Avoid!

Key things though, make sure you are going with Phifer screen or better. Regarding the solar screen (for uv rays), it is expensive stuff, but it does work. Many people are happy with it, but if at all possible, I think it is more functional just to have a Solid patio roof installed.
