Hi everyone, I can't believe It's happening. We are moving to FL. After 20 yrs in the midwest I accepted a position in a place in Altamonte Springs area. We are looking at houses in Apopka and Altamonte Springs and we want a good school district, decent pricing, safe, family friendly. Any advice? Any areas we should stay away from. Etc.

Thank you folks.

Altamonte Springs is in Seminole County and Apopka is ( mostly) in Orange County. School districts are based on county. Seminole has better reputation and rankings overall, remember Orange County includes inner city Orlando. However not much difference in your day to day life

I would opt to be closer to work if all things are equal. But Apopka an Altamonte Springs are right next to each other, an not much difference.

Go with Altamonte Springs.

Anything in the Lake Brantley School District is fine. LBHS is academically better than both Apopka and Lyman in my opinion, but also strong in Athletics and Arts. Any area west of I-4, East of Hunt Club Wekiva road is a generally a good area. The prices come down to your preference, you can go as high as in the millions in Sweetwater/Lake Brantley areas or something more reasonable in the $200k's in Spring Oaks, San Sebastian, Wekiva, to even cheaper. Great area, great amenities, slightly congested but it's all worth the trade off if you ask me. Congrats on your new job and move.

If you choose to stay in the Altamonte Springs area you might want to also look at the subdivisions off of Bear Lake Rd, Eden Park Rd, McNeil Rd and Sand Lake Rd. Some of the subdivisions might have an Apopka address but they are in Seminole County. All of the subdivisions located on those streets are in the Seminole County School area or Lake Brantley High School that Crane's Rooster spoke of. The elementary, middle schools and Lake Brantley High Schools are highly rated. There are plenty of stores in the area for household needs.

I would also strongly suggest looking at the Wekiva Springs area which is actually Longwood, and not Altamonte Springs. The area is roughly bounded by Wekiva Springs Rd on the north side, Hunt Club Blvd to the west and Sand Lake Rd to the south. It has the highest ranked schools in that area and is very safe/established.

I can't believe this is actually happening. We spent this past weekend in the Apopka/AS area. We are considering a gated community right on the east side of Bear Lake. Around Bear Lake Rd, with McNeil Rd, Bunnel Rd and Cub Lake. That looks to be a nice area. My kids will probably go to private schools, but I definitely want to stay in a good school district as a backup plan and resale value. My wife wants a gated community. I know it's not THAT much safer, but I guess it adds some security. Very exciting.
