Hi Edenri,

Oviedo is a great area, however if you drive south on 417, come visit Lake Nona/Medical City and the surrounding neighborhoods and schools. It's a wonderful area, great for families. It's new and vibrant. Please send me private message and I'll be happy to provide links for you to explore the area.

And as a regular, extended visit kind of tourist, I'd know where we congregate.

That's called having a great central location. People living in the Marina District in San Francisco don't complain about the Golden Gate Bridge being next to their neighborhood, it's actually considered a plus.

Being near International Drive, Disney Springs, Universal, outlet malls, Mall at Millenia are reasons to love Dr. Phillips. You have all that right next door to you, yet Dr. Phillips itself remains a local residential neighborhood. You don't see tourists crossing the road at Dr. Phillips Blvd because they are walking from their non-existent hotels to Universal lol. Not to mention Restaurant Row is popular among locals as well. It's one of the reasons why there are so many restaurants there. People living in North Beach District in San Francisco, don't complain because every tourist wants to try a restaurant in Little Italy once during their trip. Sometimes I wonder what you like or are you the type of personality that never is satisfied. Either you talk big in admiration about places like San Francisco having all these points of interests right at your doorsteps, then the next thing you complain as if it would be terrible to live near points of interest.

An important thing that you should consider is whether you want to be in a traditional neighborhood or a development, whether it be gated or not.

I would just say to just live near Sea World, since that's where you're working. There are plenty of homes there. Or you could go to Hunters Creek.

College Park is a bit far, though.

You could also consider moving closer to Downtown for that, but it might be more expensive. Also, maybe Dr. Phillips can be good, but it's more expensive there too.

Or you could go to north Orlando at Lake Mary as others have suggested, but that's a bit more expensive. You'll have to compare the cost of the home vs. the neighborhood.

Lake Mary to Seaworld could be well over an hour commute each way during rushing hour. Dr Phillips is nicer than Lake Mary and at the worst peak of rush hour would be like 20-25 minutes.

Yeah, I mentioned Lake Mary because of the the proximity to the children's school, but living close to the workplace, either in Hunters Creek or Dr. Phillips or anywhere in south Orlando really as you state would be better.

My son and his wife are moving to Florida from NY this summer. They are interested in a one bedroom apartment that is dog friendly. Budget is $800.They would love Lake Mary. Are there any apartments in their budget in that area. Any other nice safe areas near Lake Mary?!! Thanks.

There are some rentals in their budget in the Orlando area, but most wouldn't want to live in them...think "affordable rental" properties with a very mixed bag of residents. The average one bedroom apartment in the Orlando metro area currently rents for over over $1000 a month. In Lake Mary there are three complexes with one bedrooms in the $900 range and all are safe/desirable, plus dog-friendly. Unless they can plan to up their budget, I would highly discourage making the move. Sabal Creek in Longwood would also be a nice option at $922.

Depending on exactly where your kids are attending school, you probably want to stay toward the Northwest side of town (Oviedo would be quite a commute each way). Some closer areas are Ocoee and Apopka, both of which have some nice residential communities. Winter Garden, as suggested, is a great area to raise a family, but is a little further out (that city is booming with a lot of great neighborhoods going up). I recently moved from Oviedo area to the Ocoee/Windermere/Winter Garden area and it is quite similar to Oviedo. The upside is it is quiet and safe, but at the same time we are much closer to the attractions when we do choose to go there. (www.movetoorlando.info)
