If you guys think OPD is bad, then take a spin around Fort Pierce/St Lucie County!

Honestly I haven't had any encounters with OPD yet and I've been here for over a year...hopefully it stays that way

[edit]One thing I shared with my wife awhile back (Based on my history of 40+ traffic stops) - Keep your hands on the steering wheel unless asked for ID or etc and be polite/respectful and things will go smoothly, while likely getting off with a verbal warning.[/edit]

While it's possible that there might be bad schools or restaurants, it's comforting to know that all police departments are top notch.

It is really hard to become a police officer. To be hired they must pass a written test, physical test, polygraph, very stringent background and reference check and then pass the academy. The application process can take 6-9 months and in the end they know EVERYTHING about you. I am sure every now and then a bad person slips through the cracks but compared with most every other job/career their screening is far more selective. The polygraph knocks out around 60% of the applicants alone (of the ones that even make it that far).

No I am not a police officer. I just know how it works.

I am sorry but I am a white, 5ft tall , 100 pound woman so should not be considered a threat in your eyes, right?......every time I ever got pulled over for speeding(not since I had the red sports car and long blonde hair 30 years ago-even though I am still guilty of speeding btw) the cop unsnapped the gun and walked up to the car window with his hand on the gun. It is procedure not being psycho. Every person is a potential threat even if they look sweet and innocent. I sure would not get the phone call that my nephew was killed when he pulled someone over because he was too trusting.

Exactly, there is zero risk of accident getting shot by an officer from just his hand over his gun while it is holstered, yet it might deter a would be criminal to not try anything funny. People should go move to a ghetto of a major coty if they think life would be so much better without cops.
