Hello everyone, so me and my wife visit Orlando every year for family vacation and we are thinking about moving down there. I'm 27yr and she is 25, we have two kids under two. Right now we live in Westchester, paying $3.200 for rent and our expenses goes over $7k per month. Together we make over 120k a year.

We are looking to move to Orlando to have a more laid-back life style. We work many hours here in NY and our kids are growing too fast so we want to devote more time with them.

I'm a family/children photographer, have my own studio here and my wife is a housekeepers for two families here and she is also a hairstylist.

How is job opportunities in Orlando ? Specially in those 3 fields ? Rent? Living Expenses ?

I were thinking of saving some money and move in about 7-8 months from now.

Any ideas of best neighborhood ? Good schools and safe ?

It's competitive, I see a lot of cheap groupons for family photo shoots and house keeping. The established ones are busy for both. Styling is also competitive, the established ones do well.

Have you visited Florida only in the winters, or are some of your visits in the summer? Your expenses sound a little high at $84K a year. Do your expenses include taxes, fees, and saving for retirement? A few years ago, we looked for IT jobs in Florida, but the wages were about half to one-third what we are making in Minnesota. If you do more research, you will find that most jobs pay less in Florida, perhaps significantly less. There's no income tax in Florida, but the fees are higher, so overall, the taxes and fees are less. You might end up working more if both of you need to work two jobs, or your main jobs, plus your part time jobs. We found that it is better to make your money, and build the nest egg of retirement savings in the snow belt, since we are extreme savers, then retire in Florida where the cost of living is lower. But in our case, we might snowbird for several years for the transition, even though it is much more expensive to maintain two homes.
