I was just doing a bit of research and it seems like property taxes might be higher in Orange County than San Diego County.

I was comparing a current loan estimate and my loan in San Diego and it appeared to be true. Then I found this calculator that confirmed it.

https://smartasset.com/taxes/florida...tax-calculator

It shows Orange County as being around 1.1% and San Diego as around .7%. Can that really be right??? I was sure California had the highest property taxes in the country... Can anyone confirm this?

FL has no state income tax so they have higher property taxes, which still comes out to way less than CA once you factor in State Income tax (and also a higher sales tax).

Orlando should be around 1.1%-1.3% of the sales price. In Miami/Broward, its about 1.6%-1.7% with a homestead and 1.8%-2.0% without (for investors/2nd home owners).

Didnt realize SD was that low of a rate, of course the assessed value being astronomically higher than what you see in Orlando, with wages that likely do not compensate makes Orlando the better deal, esp when you throw in no income tax and lower sales tax rates than CA

I guess the question is at the end of the day will you have more money in your pocket in Orlando vs San Diego. Aside from taxes other things to consider is what your salary will be in Orlando vs SD plus cost of auto insurance. It may be higher in Orlando due to Fl being 5th highest in the nation higher than Ca though not by alot depending on location of Orlando area.

Also utilities cost like water / electric & tolls if you'll be commuting any of the many toll roads in Orlando area.

Car insurance rates by state: Most and least expensive

Which brings the point WHY are Orange County Florida property taxes so high when we have likely the most tourism based taxes coming into our county in the whole USA?!

Where are those HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars going?!

They're not offsetting our property taxes and most of our public servants are paid LESS than neighboring counties.

Prop 13 in CA limits property taxes to 1%. Additionally, counties and cities can levy additional taxes on top of the 1%.

So 1% is the absolute lowest property tax in CA. Most are little higher.

I believe my house is around 1.4%

1% sounded right to me. I had a condo in SD and I thought it was around 1%, but that calculator showed .7%. I'm not sure about some of these online calculators so that's why I posted here. Thought some of you guys may have more experience and knowledge with this.
