Oh my God I thought California DMV was bad. The websites here are so unclear about how to do this. Does anyone have any experience with this? I know there are some recent transplants here. The flhsmv.gov says I have to register within 30 days of moving here (yah right), but it's not very clear on how. What I really don't want to do is make an appointment, go down there, and have to come back because I forgot something. Anyone know the drill?

It's super easy, especially the one in the downtown area. Make an appointment online, bring two proof of residences, your car's title, id and passport and show up. We were in and out in 15 minutes.

OK! Thanks. I wish they could just say that on the website! You went to the one on Colonial?

No that one is bad, it's like in downtown Orlando near 408. It's been two years since I did mine, but my car was paid off. I think you can call them if you look up the specific location, but I'm not sure.

With a leased car you will need specific papers from the company leased from in hand to register the car in Florida. Check the DMV site for the requirement or give them a call to make sure you have everything you need.

You will like the annual fees in Florida vs California. My tags were $245/yr in Cali and here they will be like $60. If you have ever had a Florida tag in your life you don't have to pay the impact fee.

So I did this today and it was great. So efficient! they give you your plate and new id card while you're there! In CA this would have taken weeks.
