budget? The ideal place would be downtown/Eola area or SoDo.

Where will you be working? That needs to be the biggest factor. It will take well over an hour to get from downtown to the tourist area in rush hour, even though it’s barely 20 miles. Heck, my house is 8 miles from the center of downtown and it takes me an hour to to get home from work at 5:30p due to traffic getting out.

Grocery stores and gyms are everywhere, no need to worry about that. Orlando is huge with tons of businesses. For a younger feel with walkable restaurants and bars, you’ll want to stay downtown around Lake Eola and Throton Park.

I think Dr. Philips might be a bit too family-oriented.
Another area that comes to mind you might like would be Baldwin Park.

I moved to Dr. Phillips at 28 and my partner was 22. I like it because I'm close to the theme parks, I-Drive, shopping malls, Disney Springs, etc. It depends what you like doing for fun. It has a family vibe though as far as the overall feeling, but it is a lot closer to the action in my opinion.
I'd check out Lake Eola / Thornton Park as well.

I’d look at Mills50, Milk District, Audubon Park, Ivanhoe Village, anything around Lake Eola. I’m a 20-something and I love Dr. Phillips, but it is definitely more family-oriented and there’s not a whole lot of events in the area for people our age.

Do you know where you’ll be working? You should factor that in as well. Commuting across the city can be a pain and I-4 is a mess right now.

Realistically Dr. Phillips is going to be out of your price range unless you're OK with living in a 1/1 apartment that hasn't been updated since the 80's.

There's plenty of places in the Mills 50, Milk District, and Lake Eola areas that should be within your budget and will put you closer to the action with plenty of nightlife around people your age.

Baldwin Park also comes to mind. It's a bit pricey though.
