Currently living in Orlando suburb and not happy here. Looking to move closer to the coast and wondering if Lakeland is nice. We are retired, like quiet and less traffic. We definitely do not want to be in a 55+ community though. Would like to be close to fishing possibilities. Someone told us we wouldn’t be happy in the area as it’s so commercial oriented. Whatever that means. Appreciate any input.

I don't really think Lakeland is that much closer to the coast. Why Lakeland if I might ask?

Closer to the coast is Crystal River, Dunnellon away from the orlando craziness and much more affordable than beach areas on the gulf or Atlantic. I don't see what Lakeland gets you. It's a major logistics center with publix headquarters and Amazon among many others.

Auburndale looks quieter with better housing prices.

There's places like Englewood, Port Charlotte and Rotonda West which too are more affordable and closer to the coast...also much less prone to frost/freeze in the winter.

Well it's closer to the gulf! Maybe that's what they mean.

Which Orlando suburb are you in now, and what's your reason for not liking it? That could be a factor in the suggestions that people provide you so that we're not suggesting similar types of towns just in a different metro area.

What about Poinciana? It's the best kept secret in Florida. Close enough to get into the City in minutes but far enough away to be peaceful.

Poinciana: it's a little bit country, a little bit rock n roll.

Best kept secret in FL? It's another Deltona...and not exactly on the list of choices 99% of those looking for a place to live.
