My wife and I are considering relocating to the Orlando area. I have a job offer in Lake Mary. It looks like my wife would have a good chance to get a job near the I-4 / 528 intersection by Doctor Phillips.
We would like to try finding a place to rent that would split commute times. Any recommendations on areas? I was looking at Winter Park, but am worried the traffic would be insane. Plus it looks like rent would be $1300 for a one bedroom.
Thanks for any insight.

Depends where you are moving from and what kind of traffic tolerance you have. Your commutes would be one hour or less even in peak rush hour. You can use google maps with live traffic during the times you would be commuting, so you can see what it would be like. You can also consider College Park too.

Appreciate the information. We are both coming off of 40 minute commutes so that wouldn't be too far off. Is the College Park area safe?

You're in luck. Both Lake Mary and Winter Park have Sunrail stations. Find a place along the line and commute by train. Bet you didn't know that was possible in Orlando.

The job isn't in Winter Park- the Job is in Dr. Phillips.

I4 and 528 is absolutely nowhere near a SunRail station. Ironically they have a weird sign though that says SUNRAIL --> meanwhile, the Station is on Orange and Sand Lake nearly 7 miles away.

OP would be best anywhere along the I4 line.
You might need to up the budget to 1400 or so for a 1BR though.

Your midway point is Downtown, just north (college park) or just south.

No problem!

One hour would be toward the top of the estimate IMO, but yeah you can use google maps to confirm this during your commute times. College Park is relatively safe. It's a desirable area, but out of the desirable areas, there is slightly more crime, but it's not a high crime area.

The only possible downside to College Park is the lack of rental apartments given it has primarily single family housing, and for that matter Winter Park if looking for closer proximity to I-4 (recommended for commute time). The downtown cluster of highrise apartments close to I-4 could be a good option https://www.apartments.com/apartment...2r6-uh8Gmnmg3D Otherwise if interested in a more suburban/quieter feel you might try out a couple of newer properties in Maitland on US17-92 https://www.apartments.com/apartment...tp6ws-j8Gqv53d While not right on I-4 the stretch of road to get there during commute times (17-92 and Lee Road) aren't overly congested.

Id recommend downtown and basically plan for up to 40 min commutes for both of you... Possibly less quite often

My daughter works at Disney, and my son-in-law works in Maitland. They decided on College Park as a good place to live with a bearable commute for each of them.

If you're looking for rentals, there's a new rental property just opening in College Park: https://www.theprincetonatcollegepark.com/

But rents are high there, as they are all over this area.
