I am looking at moving to Orlando in the near future. If I make the move, I'd probably be going in with only a part time job (would get a 2nd one) until I find a FT in the field I'm looking for.

I noticed on zillow there seems to be quite a few detached garage 1bdr apartments available in laureate park that has utilities already included. Since I would like to be in the Lake Nona region, I feel this could be a better option then renting at an apartment complex as total rent after utilities would be quite higher. The weird thing about it though, is a lot of these places looks like they have been up for rent for over 45 days, so not sure if there is something wrong with them, or something they are not telling in the description.

Anyone familiar with that neighborhood and the renting of the garage apartments?

A lot of the models have detached garages with an apartment above it. Nothing wrong with them really, it's just some people don't want to live next to their landlord. That area is a good part of Lake Nona. Enjoy!

If cost is more important, then they are a great option over the traditional apartments where utilities are not included. As bmw mentioned, the owners live in the main house and have the garage apartment rented out for extra income, so you would essentially be living next to your LL. They could be strict on noise, guests, parking, etc. since they are living right next door.

The actual apartments and neighborhood are very nice though. Nothing physically wrong with them.

I have seen these units and they are actually very nice. The neighborhood is on the upscale side and The Lake Nona and Narcoossee area is really quite nice too.
