When we moved out of our old house in NC, we hired a professional cleaning service to leave things in tip-top shape for the new owner. Well worth the money.

We're moving out of an apartment soon. I hear that if we don't clean it to a move-in ready state, that we likely won't get our security deposit back. Huge addendum in our lease about cleaning and the cost of cleaning various items. My wife and I will be busy and aren't professional cleaners.

Security deposit is only $300. But I can't imagine a deep clean of a 1,200 sq ft apt would cost any more than around $150 or so. Am I wrong? Even if it's more, I'd rather pay a cleaning service is little more--but less than $300--for peace of mind. Rather than letting the management company pocket the money.
