I get everyone's point about Publix not doing well elsewhere if "doing well" means duplicating its Florida dominance in other markets. I'm sure Wegmans doesn't have #1 market share in every market outside of upstate NY. Same for other state/regional brands with loyal followings like H-E-B and Meijer.

I'd actually appreciate another mid-market grocer or two in the mix here. If we had a Kroger or if Albertsons/Safeway remained and expanded, I would probably visit all of them and Publix at some point every 4-5 weeks depending on their location. That's pretty much what I do now with the big box and local companies we have around here. However, as evidenced in the past 5-8 years of change in the grocery market, the only store that will be the most threatened and most impacted by each new entrant here at first is Winn-Dixie....

I agree Publix needs more competition there used to be many other stores that have closed down in Florida since the 70s such as Albertson’s, more Winn Dixies, Publix is way overpriced, how about a Kroger‘s, Food Lion, Stop and Shop etc ?

"competition" was here, and it failed.

We have alternatives.
I'm going to Freshfield's right now.

Publix currently competes against Kroger and Food Lion in numerous markets outside of Florida. Stop & Shop likely does not coexist anywhere Publix operates yet. However, S&S is owned by Ahold Delhaize, the parent company of Food Lion. I don't think any existing out-of-state competitors want to expand into Florida where they will have to compete against 800 Publix locations. A COVID-19 induced recession may hinder that even more, especially for chain stores that carry a larger quantity of higher-end items that people on here complain about Publix not offering.

Lucky's and Earth Fare couldn't manage to stick around in a supposedly thriving economy. Publix Greenwise 2.0 may be a victim of a possible 2020/2021 recession as Greenwise 1.0 was during 2008.

AS stated NUMEROUS times, Wegmans isn't coming. If you think Publix is on par with Wal-Mart, I suggest seeing an eye doctor. And a brain surgeon.
Wegman’s goal is to be in Florida within 5 years. Their North Carolina expansion is going well, and Georgia is the next state in their plans. Florida is after that.

Then they'll most likely meet the same fate Harris Teeter met when they expanded into FL in the late 90's.

I wish I had your money to afford Winn-Dixie. Publix's prices are lower and better that Winn-Dixie.

Kroger has failed through supermarkets Florida's Choice and SuperRx and specialty organic/gourmet grocer Lucky's. It is presently in Florida through Harris Teeter with one store location. That is not enough to contend in Florida.

Food Lion failed also through internal issues and better competitors (i.e. Publix, Walmart Supercenter). Those issues persist.

GreenWise Market will still be around.
