Hey guys. So little back story - lived in gulf side in Port Charlotte for 10 years. Really liked it there, but made a dumb mistake and moved to Alabama. No offense to those who like Alabama, but we're moving back to Florida ASAP! We are thinking about moving to Kissimmee to be closer to more kid-friendly activities and overall things to do.

We are looking primarily at the condos on Poinciana (Royal Bay, Laguna Bay, & Villas at Sumerset).

My question is about the schools. The northern part of Poinciana seems to be assigned to Westside K-8, which is rated only 3/10 on Greatschools. The more central part of it is Reedy Creek Elementary, rated 5/10. I'm looking for more info/experiences on these two schools. The rating, especially of Westside, alarms me. My daughter is 8 and will be entering 3rd grade this coming fall.

Also, does your child HAVE to go to the public school assigned? Can they switch to another public school in the county, or are they stuck at the assigned school? It is strange to me that the northern part of Poinciana is assigned to Westside, when it seems to be SO far away, compared to other public schools closer by.

I'm also interested in charter schools in the area. It seems that there are some really great ones and really bad ones!! Is getting into charter schools really difficult? I know most of them run on a lottery system, but I'm wondering what are the chances of actually getting in. I'm looking at Imagine and Osceola Science STEM due to good reviews. Also looking at Mater Palms and Renaissance Charter due to the proximity of the condos we're interested in.

Will take all of your info! By the way, we are looking at Kissimmee due to the lower cost of living. We've looked at other areas near Orlando and can't find condos in our price range (must be 3 bedrooms, as my mom lives with us). Thanks!
