Hi everyone! We have narrowed down our relocation search and have decided on Clermont, FL. Once we relocate, I want to Have my mom come stay with us. She is currently living with my sister in Northern California which is not ideal for her during the Winter months. However, she is on Medicaid so I am not sure how to transfer her stuff to Florida from California. Do I just inform Medicaid and tell them she is coming to stay with us? I just want to know where to start. Initially I was thinking to have my mom be a snowbird and go between living with both of us and stay with me in Florida during the Winter. We can even do full time with me because the Medicaid between states seems pretty complicated. My sister is currently her care taker and normally handles all of that stuff but lately we haven't been on good speaking terms for whatever reason. It might be she took offense that I wanted my mom to come live with us which is for weather/climate reasons not that I doubt my mom is in good hands. Thank you in advance!

It's an article talking about Medicaid expansion and how Florida and other red states did not expand Medicaid. While it is Food for thought, the poster did not answer my question. Florida is pushing for an expansion by means of the ballot box so people can vote on it and I can always move my mom later once that happens and for now she can stay put with my sister. Personally, I will be purchasing self insurance or small group health plans for my family.

Default Medicaid and Prescription Drugs

So, when you move to another state, you have to re-apply for medicaid and it may take up to 90 days. You are covered for emergencies only...not regular doctor visits. But, what if you have prescriptions for medications that you must take monthly? Are your prescriptions still covered by Medicaid, or do you have to pay for them all out-of-pocket until your new Medicaid kicks in?????
