I am moving to the Orlando/Ocala area in July. I am a single mother of a 11 year old boy. Can someone please tell me what area would be a good area to live, work, and raise a child in? Please help and thank you in advance.

I second that! You should try to get a job before moving here.

Can you give some reasons on why you want to move and what you are looking for that way we have an idea if this area might or might not be for you.

I am moving for personal reasons and because I have family in Florida. I'm looking for work in the clerical field.

Well I would pick Orlando over Ocala because I am sure more jobs are in Orlando.

Some areas you can look at are oviedo, winter park, winter springs all very nice areas with good schools.

Default Thank you

I would like to thank you all for your suggestions. I just dont want to moving to an area that is consider in a bad area and a middle school that is consider bad for my son. I'm just a little confuse because I'm not familiar in that area.

There are a couple of things.. it is going to be hard to get a clerical job unless you live in Orlando. The other issue is going to be pay. How much are you going to need every month to live? Keep in mind FL has no state income tax or tax on food. I would figure no more than $10.00 an hour to start even with experience. You may get more, but it is always better to figure less.

Can you stay with family until you get a job?

I am not trying to sway you against moving to Orlando, but as other's have stated you don't want to move to Orlando and be unhappy.

Default Re: Moving from CA to FL

Having lived in both CA (in both the LA area and the SF area) and FL, I would say if you can afford to stay in CA, DO SO! In CA, the jobs are much more plentiful, it is a much more progressive state, and the education system couldn't be any worse. And I definitely agree with the others, make sure you have a job BEFORE you move here, or at least make sure you have someone you can stay with until you do find a job.

Yes, I already have a job working with the Navy. I'm just transfering location. I just need help with the areas. Which areas are consider bad so I can stay away from those and which ones are consider good. I just want a good area for my son and his education. Like I said before I am not familiar with those areas at all. Thanks again.
