When the attack is pure political retribution people notice. As there has been no accusations of impropriety in how the district was run, no financial issues, delinquent taxes, failure to fulfill their obligations and maintain that which they are responsible for. This is just Lord Fauntleroy having a tantrum against 1 SD only.

Exactly. RCID worked. No one has said any differently. The prevailing attitude seems to be: If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

...and then blame the woke culture. Then, stop doing your job as governor, and spend the next year campaigning for president while still being paid to do your job as governor, because you passed a law that lets you make bank NOT doing your job, and doing a different job instead.

I think DeSantis destroyed his message about being pro-business / pro-economy from his personal vendetta against Disney. And regardless of the actual reason why Disney canceled their plans to build a $1B campus in Orlando... all his rivals have to do is mention that because of his own ego, Florida lost thousands of high paying jobs and potentially much more in tax revenue if Disney lowers their expansion plans for Florida.

Considering our current system, hard to envision DeSantis gaining much leverage over the multinational, over 160 billion dollar conglomerate. Kind of like the wiener-dog finding out he's much smaller than the Bison he's charging. Sometimes reality has a way of catching up with you.

Anyway, just saying.

You guys keep brining up "1800 special tax districts" as if it's a relevant argument. 1797 of them are taxing districts to pay for public services and/or to pay for improvements to or services in public places.

One of them is very clearly a taxing district to benefit one company.

This enemy of my enemy nonsense is for people with no principles.

The bottom line is if Disney's ex-CEO never made political comments or took public opposition to the governor, nothing would have changed. The governor nor anyone else would care about Disney's special district. The issue here is DeSantis weaponizing the government to punish a business for their free speech. Just like some liberal cities in California banning Chick Fil A because of their religious beliefs. Wrong is wrong.

Nail on the head. They keep bringing up *taxes* to distract from the blatant discrimination.
