Where do people live in Daytona Beach? Looking for a cool/hip/modern and SAFE area.

Do people live in Orlando and commute to Daytona?

I doubt many folks live in Orlando and commute to Daytona because Orlando has a far broader employment base than Daytona, just not many employers in Daytona that are not tourism related, folks can get those type of jobs in Orlando w/o commuting costs. It is about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes drive between the two. As far as safe, nice areas in Daytona, you are best looking at either Port Orange or Ormond Beach, Daytona itself has a lot of problems with crime. I would make sure I had a job before moving to Daytona, especially in this economy, jobs are not so easy to find and the pay is minimal in the tourism dependent industries.

I'm sure that a few people commute from Orlando to Daytona, but I sure as heck wouldn't. Dealing with I-4 every day would drive me insane. Have you ever been on I-4 in traffic? I suggest you try it before you commit to the area to see if it's something you would be willing to deal with.

Default Daytona Beach" Where to live

Just stepping in for one minute. WHy dont you try the Panhandle of Florida, lots of TOURISTS go there because of the White sand beaches and the dazzling color of the ocean. Is a bit more chiller in the winter season but give it a try, but then again, THE HIGHWAYS are bumper to bumper, Not like it use to be so many years ago. Lots of boats down there too.

I can't imagine living in daytona and dealing with that commute every day. Ugh. It's 75 minutes with no traffic, easily two hours each way during rush hour. Daytona proper is pretty nasty with a lot of gang problems.

Consider Winter Park--if fits your "cool/hip/modern" agenda and is about an hour to Daytona when you want to go to the beach.

If you really want to live near the beach and still have "city" employment opportunities within a reasonable commute, you might be better off redirecting your search towards the St. Petersburg area.

Default Fountain Lakes Estates

Looking at a new development called Fountain Lakes Estates. I know of good neighborhoods being surrounded by nests of crime, drugs etc. Any input? May be coming down to Florida for a career move.
