Erica, as I mentioned to you in my message to you, I'll be moving to Mount Dora from Long Island next week. Although we are very excited about our new endeavors, I am cautious, as I should be, with the move.

What I do promise to do is keep you updated on our progress, since I'm sure the first few weeks will be interesting. We have to get our daughter enrolled in school, swap our NY drivers licenses for FL licenses, change vehicle registrations, etc. It should be quite the experience, not all of which will be fun and/or exciting. Hopefully my experience helps you out with your decisions.

well, thank you all for your help. I appreciate the time. Is there alot to do with kids in Mount Dora? I'm definately going to try to rent there for a year first. Is it true that you can't actually swim in the lakes because of pollution and snakes/gators??? Wouldnt want to find that out the hard way!

I swim in the Lakes. Not polluted at all. Very closely monitored. In an some lakes, for example Lake Sauders, in an emergency the lake is considered drinking water.
Now, as to gators...well, that's a different story. Yep, swim in the MIDDLE of the lake. Not in the shoreline, that's theirs. Snakes, yeap, the blue herons love them, never bothered me though.
Good time to rent, congrats.

If I was moving to the area with school aged children, I'd look at Lake Mary.

Nomoresubways,
Congrats!
I too will be looking forward to your progress. We just bought a house 3 miles south of Leesburg, so all the areas you are posting about are close to us.
We will not live there full time for another 4 years, so it is almost just a tease for us now. We currently live in western NY.

It is exciting for us to know there will be so much for us to get to know and explore in the area. We were in Mt Dora around Christmas.....very nice.

Frank D.

Thanks Frank, it should be quite the experience no doubt! Yeah I ventured up to Leesburg the last time I was down, that's pretty close to us. Tell you one thing, after the weather we've had these past few days, I really can't wait to be down there! Should be able to catch the tail end of what everyone down there calls the best time of year for weather.

I'll start a post once I get down there to update my progress, although I'll be coming back to NYC until the end of April to wrap up my job (though they're paying me to fly home on weekends, so not too bad!)
