I would never consider a pool here without an enclosure. It's also great for small pets who like being outside. I agree it looks nice without one but I think there are so many benefits to having one.

The thing about not having a screen, it's harder to keep clean. The leaves get in there.

We have a tropical lagoon style pool with natural stone grotto. It blends perfectly into the surrounding landscape which is 300 acres of protected land. There is no way I would ruin the view with a screen. We have great pool equipment, a 'navigator' and never see a leaf in the pool. About the only thing we have to do is put a little acid in during rainy season - we have a salt cholorinator. We really don't have a issue with bugs, but DH uses sevin on the lawn once a month in the summer.

Besides a screen makes the pool way too cold for me! LOL

I am imagining the beautiful sunny (but not too hot days) having the whole back of the house wide open out to the pool area...with the breeze coming in and all....cooking outside...etc....with that screened in pool keeping all those nasty bugs out. all the while...my little doggy running in and out at will...lol

I had just seen a few very nice (not multimillion dollar either) pools that could never be screened in because of the distance from the house..or whatever...and was thinking about maybe considering them...but............

it sounds like most of you folks like your screen rooms,....eye sores or not...lol! I think some can actually look nice But I also see the other perspectives also... I do have a pool here, so I know what it takes to keep them clean. Well, at least for three months out of a year...lol...so that is not too much of a concern to me. But the bugs certainly are because I like to sit and watch the hubby and kiddo swim...and I don't wish to be eaten alive by bugs.

Thanks for all the helpful input!!!

Smile Definitely screen

I would encourage having a screen around the pool. This eliminates so much of the daily debris that will be blowing into the pool, not to mention (I guess depending upon the location of your home) geckos, snakes, and other critters of nature that like water. You'll be doing less skimming/cleaning and more swimming if you have a screen. That's been my experience. Good luck!

Unfortunately gecko's and snakes get into pool enclosures.

I had an enclosure before the hurricanes and actually didn't like it because I feel it takes away from the experience of being in the sun, the natural surroundings, etc. Then when Charlie blew mine through the back of my house I felt it would be ok not to get a new one (when I had originally purchased mine for maybe 3k and they suddenly went up to 15k.) But I have to tell you, it's a LOT more trouble without one. I built a nice fence around mine, but you constantly have to clean the thing and it gets a lot more wear and tear. Also, I never once saw a frog, snake or anything in my pool till the enclosure went away.

Get one if you can.

I've had both a house without pool enclosures and one currently with a pool enclosure. Much less of a hassel with than without. You don't have the constant bugs and dirt getting in the pool. It's true you can't keep the lizards out but other than that it's great.

GET A SCREEN. PERIOD. Minimal bugs, no leaves in pool or any creepy crawlers unless they can squeeze in under a door threshold. It makes your backyard usable at night with the lights on and you won't be eaten alive by the skeeters. The new screen codes make them stand up to 140mph winds I believe. Mine was put in the year we had the 3 hurricanes blow by and I had ZERO damage (110 mph max wind was recorded at OIA).

I own a home with a pool that is not enclosed. It would be nice, I'm sure, but my pool is more towards the back of my yard so unless I got a free standing enclosure, it's just not possible. I really haven't had any problems with it not being enclosed. I don't use that much chemicals during the summer, probably $20 or $30 a month. As for the cleaning, I hardly ever have to clean it out, I have one of those nifty barricudas that do it for me. I had an issue with sweat bees on the surface, but you can just skim those out. I've seen a couple of frogs, but those are harmless. No snakes and no lizards in the pool. I never even noticed bad mosquitos during the summer. I'm on high ground, if that can even be a statement about living in FL, so I guess that kept most mosquitos away. If I were to find another house that just happened to have a screen, than yay, awesome, but if not, it's not a big deal. It's not one of those must haves for me.
