Again we are relocating from Buffalo, NY and are curious how bad tornadoes are in Clermont. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Tornadoes occur from the severe thunderstorms that generally occur during the same storm season as hurricanes. They are random though and some of the times we have had bad tornadoes were in winter months as well. They generally occur north and northwest of Orlando in Lake, Marion, and Sumter counties, as well as Volusia county however this is just what I have observed and what took place in the past few years since I have moved here. They are random and it is not uncommon to have tornado watches and warnings when there are bad storms, but when they touch down they are very random and sometimes do very little damage. There is so much randomness to them, that I do not think you should worry about them as much as you should just be aware of what to do if one occurs. They are more random and scarier than hurricanes. Clermont has not had any tornado activity that I know of in the past 4-5 years.

I agree with Wilshire. It is one of those weather events that CAN happen, but rarely does. Even then, they cause a minimum amount of damage unless they are hurricane related along the coast line. I wouldn't give it another thought.

I wouldn't let tornado possibilities prevent you from moving to Central Florida. The tornados that may form tend to be extremely small and short-lived. We just don't have the strong jet stream winds aloft nor sharp temp differences to form large tornados. They are more severe as you head up into Alabama and areas west and north of Alabama.
