Can someone give me the name of some cities, at least one in each direction, within 45 minutes of the center of Orlando? Maps can give distance but without knowing the roads, it's hard to determine how long it takes to cover those distances.

Well it sort of depends on which part of Orlando you are talking about but here are a few that are within 45 of downtown:

To the north of Orlando: Apopka, Altamonte Springs, Oveido
To the South: Kissimmee, Celebration,St. Cloud (if taking Turnpike to 1-4 but pushing it)
To the West: Ocoee, Winter Garden, Clearmont

In addition to CMJ's list below, I just learned today that Harmony, Florida is about 45 minutes from downtown (I thought it was further). It's east of St. Cloud and is a community sort of like Celebration, but I don't think it has the glitz of Celebration. She has her horses out there.

The farther away you live the longer its going to take you obviously, but a commute in Orlando isnt as bad as people make it to be. Now guaranteed the morning is worse than the evening rush, but at the most, it will take you 45 minutes to get to downtown whether it be from Clermont in the west, Lake Mary in the North or Kissimmee in the south.
