I'm planning my move to the Orlando area this summer and it seems I may need to get a bit of extra help to supplement my children's public school education. Just wondering how difficult it would be to hire a teacher for just a couple of hours a week to teach language arts and math to my elementary age kids. What's the going rate of a tutor in this area? What would be the best way to find a teacher willing to teach for such a short time. Any good places to post something like this?

Although I prefer a private tutor, I'm considering Kumon or a learning center like Sylvan as well. Anyone have experience with either of those? I thought about trying to supplement myself, but figure someone trained in the field of education would do better.

Thanks

I can't give you the going rate but a suggestion.

contact the local colleges...and see if they any students looking to do tutoring.

My niece has supplemented her income quite well by doing this up in Richmond.

You have these to choose from and probably some others can add to it.

Rollins College
UCF
Valencia
Seminole Community College
Volusia CC.

Good luck in your search.

Many of the teachers I work with tutor students. I think the rate is around $20/hour (that's what most music lessons cost).

You can contact your child's school counseling department. They have a list of teachers that will tutor. You can also contact your child's subject area teachers and they will give you suggestions.

Thank you. That's very good info. I need to find a piano teacher also.
