I came from South Jersey where I thought it was the mosquito capitol of the world; actually you see them during the day here not just at night. Spend some bucks on glue board traps. I have caught lots of small snakes in my garage with them & other unwanted critters. As for the fire ants, they got me when I stuck my hand in a potted plant on my screened lanai - they are not just in the grass. Surprise, surprise!!

Our roaches are so large we refer to them as Palmetto bugs....lol but a rose by any other name....

We have mosquitos. There are some reports of cattle dying from so many of the little vampires but they aren't that bad around Orlando. evening hours 6-7 or so is when they are very hungry.

We have love bugs too. called that as they are always copulating adn are found in such massive numbers they will turn the front of your car black and make your windshield impossible to see through... lakes areas they are their worse. and they come 2 times a year. Wash them off as they can make your paint peel.

Those are the most notable critters from the insect world.

Use boric acid in your home and that will prevent the roach issues, also avoid cedar bark near the home. it attracts them. Use the boric acid in places it won't show... behind fridge or stove... where ever like that. and life will be good.

They actually are quite small & you probably have come across a few in your area; I have when I lived on the Jersey side of Philly. They get in your way because they can't fly to well being attached & they do ruin the paint on your car. **** luck with your move & make sure to get your fill of good pizza, pretzels, & cheese steak hoagies before you leave.

Speaking of Kappy, have you guys been to Kappy's in Maitland for cheese steaks? Awesome. Perhaps not up to Philly standard, but it is a total dive spot that just serves up excellent subs. Mama B's downtown is good too, and the gyro place across from there (New York Deli?) has the bomb gyros. Pizza around here is good, not the best I have had, but a few good spots. I'm still trying to locate that magical slice that I crave. Try Brooklyn's in Winter Park. Tastykakes can be found in Florida at Publix...no issues, and for that matter so can Yuengling. Wawa...I have been to these in Philly. Probably the coolest conveinence store I have ever seen, but I was led to believe they had the greatest sandwiches on Earth. They are good, but Jersey Mikes is better in my opinion, and those are everywhere...Firehouse Subs too.
